We would like to announce results of the Open Call for LOORE Network Residencies for Ukrainian Artists. 8 Ukrainian artists who will have the opportunity to live and work in LOORE network residencies in 2026 were selected.

 

7 residency centers belonging to the LOORE network will host Ukrainian artists from March to the end of October. The seven-week residencies in various creative environments offer Ukrainian artists a supportive working environment and valuable networking opportunities. Selected artists will receive a scholarship, accommodation and transportation costs will be covered.

 

Similar to the previous LOORE network residency offers for Ukrainian artists in previous years, the competition was very tight this time too. A total of over 180 applications were received, and the participating artists were selected by representatives of the residencies.

 

Marja Unt, CEO of the Estonian Literary Society and coordinator of UNESCO City of Literature Tartu, explained that Kateryna Krokha was selected for the residency because of her distinctive writing style, which blends documentary prose with a personal perspective, as well as the subject of the book she was developing during her stay.

According to Unt, Krokha’s work explores the memory of place in the context of war trauma. As the author herself describes it, she focuses on forms of loss that often go unrecorded—particularly the loss of places that may seem insignificant to outsiders, yet have profound and lasting consequences for those who once lived there.

 

The Narva Art Residency NART received the most applications, and according to its director Johanna Rannula, choosing one artist from 90 applicants is not an easy task: “However, attention is paid to those applications where the message is simple and clear and where context sensitivity is noticeable.”

 

The creative residencies participating in the project offer creative individuals a supportive working environment and opportunities for networking. In addition to covering accommodation and transportation costs, participants are awarded a scholarship. The project is funded by the Estonian Ministry of Culture.
